Squares Across the Border is Vancouver’s only Modern Western Square Dance club.

Founded in 1983 to serve the gay and lesbian community, SATB is a not-for-profit society whose purpose is to promote square dancing in a gender-neutral environment. Casual, friendly, and progressive lessons, teach dancers the moves required to enjoy this activity worldwide. SATB is a member of the Fraser Valley Square and Round Dance Association, the Canadian Federation of Square Dance Clubs, and the International Association of Gay and Lesbian Square Dance Clubs.

Squares Across the Border has about 50 members dancing weekly at five levels, Basic through C3A. We hold monthly, all-level club dances between September and May as well as Summer get-togethers. We are fortunate to have world-renowned caller, Anne Uebelacker and her apprentice callers, JP Slater and Bruce MacDonald as instructors. The music ranges from traditional to contemporary and beyond. The dress is casual, no experience or partner are necessary and the fun is infectious. This is a great activity for couples to learn together and, for singles, an opportunity to socialize with a diverse community you might otherwise not meet.

Squares Across the Border has had the pleasure and privilege of hosting the 7th annual convention of the IAGSDC® in April 1990, Northstar Promenade; the 18th annual convention in April 2001, Make Magic; and the 29th annual convention in July 2012, Dance Up a Storm.
